Education and Gender Equality

Education is a potent catalyst that breaks down barriers, empowers women and girls, and promotes societal change to advance gender equality. Education is essential to the development of just, equitable, and inclusive societies because it challenges damaging gender norms and stereotypes. Notwithstanding its promise for transformation, obstacles including poverty, early marriage, gender-based violence, and deeply ingrained traditional beliefs continue to exist and prevent children and youth especially girls from fully engaging in the process of global development. Nonetheless, the many ways that education advances gender equality highlight how valuable it is as an investment in growth and as a means of fostering a culture in which all women and girls may thrive.
